The Rev'd Canon Sanford R. Sears, TDC
Father Sears is a native of Milford, Connecticut. Son of Stuart G.Sears and Shirley Sears, Fr Sandy arrived at Saint Bartholomew’s in September of 2003 as third Rector. He has previously served as Bishop’s Curate at Saint Peter the Apostle Church, Christiansburg, VA, for the late Right Reverend Harry B. Scott III. He has also served as Canon to the Ordinary in the Diocese of New Granada and Canon to the Metropolitan for the Most Reverend Brother John-Charles, former Metropolitan of the Original Province of the Anglican Catholic Church. Father Sears is a Tertiary in the Franciscan Order of the Divine Compassion and has taken the religious name of Brother Brendan-David+ TDC.
Prior to completing requirements for ordination, Father worked as an educator in Maine and Virginia. He has also served over 21 years as an officer in the Army, Coast Guard, and Coast Guard Reserve, retiring in 2001. Father Sears holds an M. Ed. in secondary education from the University of Maine in Orono, and undergraduate degrees from Charter Oak University and Wentworth Military Academy. Father Sears also attended Saint Vladimir’s Orthodox Seminary, Bangor Theological Seminary and studied for Holy Orders in the Republic of Colombia. Father is currently studying for an advanced graduate degree in theology. Father Sears is also a serving Hospice Chaplain.
Father Sears is a Knight in the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem, a Compatriot of The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, and a member of the Sons of Union Veterans. He is also a Priest Associate of the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham, a member of the Guild of All Souls and the Society of King Charles the Martyr.
Father Sears is married to the former Erika Lilliana Vargas-Varon, of Bogotá, Colombia, whom he met while working in the Diocese of New Granada. In their spare time both Father and Erika enjoy reading about history, traveling and touring in their 1914 Model T Ford 1910, Maxwell or his 1920 Packard. Father Sears is also a dedicated Civil War Reenactor Fife and drums groups and currently serves as a Chaplain in the 28th, Mass. Vol.'s of the Irish Brigade.
